The print is based on one of the comic strip pages Curve created for Carnage Issue 8. Mixing pop sensibility with cartoon art and graffiti flair, this hand-colored print highlights Curve's talent as an artist and illustrator.

Exlusive NY Art Book Fair releases: Curve, Dave Schubert and more!

We are excited to announce the release of several new titles at the New York Art Book Fair at PS1 in Long Island City from September 25-28 where we will be sharing a table with EKG Labs in the zine tent. All new items will also be available in the store on Monday, 9/29 at noon ET (pending availability).

Carnage Issue 8 is a collaboration with graffiti writer, artist and illustrator Curve. Box trucks have come to take the place of subway cars in New York as moving canvases for graffiti writers that allow their work to travel across the city. Curve explores the theme of box trucks in the form of photos of painted trucks, drawings, illustrations and a series of comic strips created exclusively for this issue. The zine also comes with a cut-and-fold Curve box truck model, a custom ultra flat black truck air freshener, a set of vinyl stickers and a handwritten Curve sticker. Issue 8 is limited to 500 numbered copies with screenprinted front and back covers. Large format, full color, perfect-bound, 52 pages.

Drink Whiskey All Day and Climb Trees at Night is a new collection of photos by legendary San Francisco photographer Dave Schubert. For decades Schubert has immersed himself in documenting his friends and contemporaries and the work they left behind on walls, shutters, trucks and buses. This zine features a representative cross section of some of the best of Schubert’s work, including portraits, street photography, classic Bay Area graffiti and action shots of artists like MQ, Sace (RIP) and others. Edition of 200 with a screenprinted cover. 5.5x8.5”, 52 pages.

September 12, by Ray Mock, is a collage zine composed of newspaper headlines from New York-area papers from September 12, 2014. The headlines have been juxtaposed, truncated and re-combined, forming a mosaic of current events that allows viewers to come up with their own reading and interpretation of the narratives that occupy our public discussion thirteen years after 9/11. Edition of only 35 with a screenprinted cover. 5.5x8.5”, 20 pages.

Banksy in New York by writer and photographer Ray Mock is the ultimate companion to Banksy’s month-long Better Out Than In project on the streets of New York in October, 2013.

Mock has been documenting street art and graffiti in New York and around the world for many years. His photography has appeared in numerous books (including Graffiti 365, Wild Art and Banksy: You Are an Acceptable Level of Threat) and magazines.

Banksy in New York offers a first-hand day-by-day account of the residency and many of the events surrounding the daily hunt for new pieces. The author is as much a fan as a critic of the artist’s work and delivers his account in the form of a personal narrative that is by turns insightful and humorous, paying homage to Banksy’s wit and creativity while challenging the artist – and his detractors – to consider the true impact of his work.

Banksy in New York features over 120 photos and illustrations on 120 pages and will be available in the store in a limited edition of 2,000 with a screenprinted cover on August 15, 2014 at noon ET.

Exclusive HERT limited edition screenprint release

Carnage NYC is proud to announce the release of a unique edition of screenprints by artist Ian de Beer.

In September of 2010, Ian de Beer, aka HERT, was sentenced to 1-3 years in state penitentiary for graffiti. Regarded by many of his peers as one of the most talented young artists emerging on the East Coast, he now faced severe restrictions. After a year in prison he was moved first to a half-way house and is currently still confined to his hometown in Western New York State. His artistic interests have broadened considerably in recent years, but de Beer’s transition to a professional art career is facing serious hurdles: Under the condition of his parole, de Beer is not allowed to use a wide variety of art materials, including paint and any type of marker or pen, even to create works on paper or canvas.

In order to create this print without these essential tools, de Beer decided to incorporate these restrictions into the artistic process. He manipulated the imagery digitally and commissioned an external printer. Rather than signing the prints in a conventional manner, de Beer chose to tell the story of his arrest with his finger-prints and had a pint of his own blood extracted to use in place of ink. De Beer thus re-focuses the viewer’s attention from the banality of arrest procedures to the existential threat of suffocating restrictions that aim not to reform but solely to punish.
